Healing Through Hope
Empowering Protective Parents
The Holding Hope Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by survivors of domestic abuse, united by one goal: to support families navigating the devastating impact of coercive control.
Coercive control is a pattern of psychological abuse that doesn’t end with divorce or separation and often escalates. Through post-separation tactics like legal intimidation, manipulation, and control of shared children, abusive dynamics intensify long after the relationship ends. Protective parents frequently face bias, financial hardship, and isolation as they try to safeguard their children in systems that aren’t built to recognize these patterns. The emotional toll on the protective parent is overwhelming — and that’s exactly why The Holding Hope Foundation exists.
We provide trauma-informed, high-impact resources to help protective parents reclaim their voice and advocate effectively for their children. Our flagship initiative, the Holding Hope Scholarship Program, removes financial barriers so parents can access the Protective Parenting Program developed by Dr. Christine Cocchiola — a transformative educational course rooted in the latest research on coercive control and the impact it has on children.
We believe education is the foundation of empowerment. With the right knowledge, tools, and support, protective parents can confidently navigate abusive co-parenting dynamics and strengthen the bond they have with their children.
At the Holding Hope Foundation, hope isn’t just a feeling — it’s a strategy. We’re here to ensure no protective parent walks this path alone.
Our Mission
The Holding Hope Foundation was created to empower protective parents impacted by coercive control. Our first scholarship program will provide access to the transformative Protective Parenting Program developed by Dr. Christine Cocchiola of the Coercive Control Institute. These scholarships offer protective parents the access to the tools, education, and resources they need to rebuild safety, resilience, and hope for their families by removing financial barriers.
Co-parenting with a coercive controller is one of the most isolating and difficult challenges a protective parent will face. They create a dynamic of confusion, fear, and mistrust which erodes the protective parent’s bond with their children. With the right tools and support, protective parents can preserve and strengthen their connection, ensuring that their child feels deeply loved, safe, and understood. The Holding Hope Foundation was created to provide access to this critical support and guidance and to show protective parents that in the face of manipulation and unpredictability, hope remains.
Our Why
At the Holding Hope Foundation, we believe every child deserves to grow up in a safe, loving and nurturing environment free from the damaging effects of coercive control.
